It has been a busy month, with for example organizing the 12 hour fundraiser show for the Secular Students Alliance. And now handling all the traffic I got from the shout-out from TheLivingDinosaur. Not to mention a very busy month at work. It was fun, but a bit draining. So I’m going to celebrate the holidays with my family and…
Stephen Schneider was a professor of Environmental Biology, a great scientist and one incredible science communicator. The short below was made by Stephen Thomson, a year in the making, and pays tribute to this scientific and academic important figure. Professor Schneider will be missed. Peter Sinclair has released another excellent video about climate change science, this time about the simplistic view some have that all global warming science has its foundation on the hockey stick. Watch this video on YouTube There’s a persistent delusion out there, that you hear a lot from people who should know better – that global warming boils down to…
Almost everyone who follows the climate change ‘debate’ has heard of Michael Mann, and if not would have in the very least heard about the “hockey stick graph” he produced.
This graph is the result of extensive research about temperature trends over the last thousand years, and shows that the current warming is unprecedented for at least the past thousand years. It was, and still is, heavily criticized by opponents. Although over the years other teams have confirmed that this graph is correct and have even extended our knowledge about how unprecedented current temperature trends are.
Well Sort of…
Monckton didn’t respond directly to the videos Potholer54 (Peter Hadfield) made documenting and rebutting incorrect or dubious claims made by him.
No, he responded to a commenter who gave a simplified listing of the errors Potholer54 addressed:
This is a response by Christopher Monckton to the comment on the Nurse anti-science thread yesterday by anonymous commenter “The other Brian” who in typical troll style, tries to distract away from the post and point being made with noise.- Anthony
So instead of actually dealing with the excellent videos Potholer produced, he goes after a few lines of text. I think you can guess who made another excellent set of videos documenting how Monckton yet again contradicts himself:
The following is a reprint of a news release issued by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on Nov 21, 2011
The amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere reached a new high in 2010 since pre-industrial time and the rate of increase has accelerated, according to the World Meteorological Organization’s Greenhouse Gas Bulletin. It focussed special attention on rising nitrous oxide concentrations.
Between 1990 and 2010, according to the report, there was a 29% increase in radiative forcing – the warming effect on our climate system – from greenhouse gases. Carbon dioxide accounted for 80% of this increase.
“The atmospheric burden of greenhouse gases due to human activities has yet again reached record levels since pre-industrial time,” said WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud. “Even if we managed to halt our greenhouse gas emissions today – and this is far from the case – they would continue to linger in the atmosphere for decades to come and so continue to affect the delicate balance of our living planet and our climate.”
An excellent video from Potholer54 explaining why the release of the second batch of emails is another attempt to create a false controversy. Watch this video on YouTube
It has been a few days since the release of a new batch of emails that were obtained by hacking servers at the University of East Anglia. And the usual suspects have been in a complete feeding frenzy digging through them to see if they can find some damning quotes/evidence.
Well it seems the hacker(s) behind the original release of the so called climategate emails have released another bunch. This time releasing about 5,000 not previously released emails, and also admitting to having another 220,000 emails.
I venture you won’t need much guessing who immediately jumped on this to proclaim that “here comes Climategate II“, indeed none other than James Delingpole:
